As theatreWashington’s signature program, the Helen Hayes Awards’ structure is driven and shaped by our larger mission of supporting and representing all sectors of the Washington theatre community — theatres, professionals, and diverse audiences of all ages — to build a strong, connected community. Recognizing excellence through the Awards is in service of that mission, and responsibility for the Awards’ overall structure lies with theatreWashington’s Board of Directors. To lead our 2013 review, the Executive Committee of our board has created a special task force to recommend solutions to complex issues at the structural level. Meanwhile, the Board of Governors of the Helen Hayes Awards continues to fulfill its key responsibilities for evaluating the Awards’ current rules and policies.

Consistent with our partnership with the theatre community, we want you to help inform how theatreWashington addresses pending issues in the best interests of the overall theatre community. To that end, we invite you to participate in a facilitated conversation. This will be an opportunity for members of the theatre community to come together and offer their perspectives, opinions, and other thoughts about several current issues regarding the Awards process.
