Iyona Blake



Iyona Blake is a Singer, Actor, Vocal Coach and Music Instructor. Iyona is also a graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Shenandoah University Conservatory, where she studied Voice Performance and received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance. Most recently, Iyona was seen as a Griot in the Christmas Gift, Desiree/Celina in Breast in Show, a breast cancer musical; Fats Waller’s Ain’t Misbehavin’ as Armelia McQueen with Washington Savoyards, and Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity with Theatre Alliance. Iyona’s operatic roles include the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Magda Sorel (The Consul), Liu (Turandot), Marie (The Bartered Bride), and Bess (Porgy and Bess). She has made solo appearances performing “Ave Maria” in the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall, Washington, DC., and been featured as the encore soloist with NEWorks Productions and the National Symphony Orchestra. In 2012, Iyona made a TV and concert appearance with Academy and Tony Award winning Glen Hansard. In the summer of 2012, Iyona joined an impressive ensemble of nine professional singers on a cultural envoy to Cairo, Egypt, amongst 12 other countries representing the United States in an international festival of sacred music and chanting.

Having been nourished by years of classical training, vocal versatility and discipline, Iyona is a general music teacher at the Montessori School of Northern Virginia, a Voice Professor in the Theater Arts Department, Howard University, a sought after private voice instructor and coach, and a voice clinician at vocal music seminars and workshops throughout the east coast.
