“…a blistering fusion of the personal and the political.” The New York Times
In a Tea Room in 1950’s apartheid-stricken South Africa, Halley, the white son of the tea room’s owners enjoys a meal and conversation with the two black employees who work there. Prejudice, rivalry and the complexities of human relationships are put to the test of societal forces and vicious racism in what is considered Fugard’s best work. Officially banned by the South African government, this play earned the Drama Desk Award and Critics Circle Award for best play in 1983.
