Lonely Planet takes place in a small map store on the oldest street in an unnamed American city. It is here that an extraordinary story unfolds. Steven Dietz, one of the most prolific, versatile and widely produced playwrights in the country, has written a brilliant, evocative award-winning play about the power of friendship in a world of potential terror and suffering. Dietz’s love of maps and the absurdist world inhabited by Ionesco’s masterpiece The Chairs, coupled with game playing, truth telling, absurdist flights of fantasy and surprising moments of humor, creates a world where friendship and fear collide, and the compassion, empathy and commitment of Jody and Carl can resonate and survive.
