During the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, two teenage girls joined the Dutch Resistance. Truus and Freddie Oversteegen were entrusted with increasingly high-risk missions. They were trained to spy on potential targets, assume false identities, and blow up bridges. The girls would ride their bicycles utterly free of suspicion, shoot a Nazi, and ride away. The story of their staggering bravery against impossible odds inspires all who hear it. But the cost was high. The war robbed these girls of a simple and happy life, and haunted them for the rest of their days.
Taffety Punk company member and playwright Kelsey Mesa, who penned 2023's award winning ""La Salpêtrière"", takes on the story of these girls by focusing on the youngest: Freddie. We follow Freddie's journey from wide-eyed novice to experienced saboteur and assassin — a journey so harrowing no teenager should be burdened with it. But her country had been invaded by bloodthirsty criminals. She and her sister were determined to make a difference in the war.
