"If it were made for man, 'twas made for me."
By re-gendering the title character of Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, BST alters an Everyman to an Everywoman. Joan, an ambitious, brilliant woman seeks to reach the heights of knowledge and power, but is brought down by the rules of the world in which she lives. A female Faustus (and mostly female cast) plays with institutionalized patriarchal tropes in order to both examine and exploit them.
