In this gripping tale, Beatrice-Joanna is eager to marry the man she loves. In order to achieve this freedom, she hires her loathsome servant De Flores to murder her fiance. When she offers money and jewels to pay him, he refuses, demanding instead her virginity. Though four hundred years old, this dark play presents an all too familiar picture of men’s manipulation and degradation of women.
Playing in repertory with The Duchess of Malfi.
