Decoding Classical Scripts (Online)

This in-depth intro-level class is designed to give modern actors, directors, and audience members the skills to bring heightened language down to earth. Students will take an instructor-led but collaborative journey through a variety of classical texts, focusing on Shakespeare. Beginning with the basics of rhythm and meaning, this course will then dig deeper into classical rhetorical structures to unlock the dramatic power of the language. Coursework will include weekly reading assignments, lively discussion, and in-class acting. No outside rehearsal or previous experience with classical theatre is required.
