Want to explore Neo-Futurism? Wanna get a better feeling for what it is? Join the NY Neos on Saturday morning for a three hour exploration of the basics of Neo-Futurism, where they'll help students dip their toes into what it is exactly the Neos do.

The Neo-Futurists, and Neo-Futurism, have been staples of the Chicago, and then New York and then San Francisco theatre scenes since Greg Allen conceived Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind in 1988 and it was devised by an eight-member ensemble at Stage Left Theater in Chicago.

What is Neo-Futurism, though, as defined by the Neos?

"In typical post-modern fashion, a theory was borrowed from here, a form was stolen from there. From our namesakes, the Italian Futurists came the exultation of speed, brevity, compression, dynamism, and the explosion of preconceived notions. From Dada and Surrealism came the joy of randomness and the thrill of the unconscious. From the theatrical experiments of the 1960’s came audience interaction, breaking down all notions of distance, character, setting, and illusion. Finally, from the political turmoil of the 1980’s came a socially conscious voice and a low-tech, “poor theater” format. This Neo-Futurist aesthetic, embraced by an ensemble of highly dedicated, talented writer/performers, became Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, and then, later, The Infinite Wrench. "
