Celebrating the life and work of the man -- playwright, dissident, political prisoner, and first president of the Czech Republic, The Vaclav Havel Project features Havel’s most beloved character, Ferdinand Vaněk, who seems to have been dropped to earth without a set of instructions. This clown-like innocent observes an alienating society while conjuring through his artist’s imagination a fantasy life outside of prison only to discover that prisons are of our own making. His encounters with friends and family are both hilarious and chilling. The Vaclav Havel Project consists of a double bill – the celebrated production of Havel’s Unveiling, and the premier of an original music-theatre work, Vanek Unleashed, which takes its performance style from American musicals and silent screen comedy.
