New Mentor Lead

We are pleased to announce that we have a new face joining the Theatre Washington team! Please welcome Alissa Klusky as our new Mentor Program Lead, with the Theatre Work program. Read more about her below or reach out to say hi at her new email address - alissa@theatrewashington.org.

Alissa Klusky (she/her) is a dramaturg, director, and community programmer based in the DC area. Alissa's work focuses on engaging with the whys of producing theater with and for local communities. No matter what multi-hyphenate role she is filling, "advocating for joyous discoveries" is at the center of her artistic mission. As the Theatre Washington Mentor Program Lead, Alissa is excited to build a space for the Washington, DC-area theatre community to engage in the Practice of Questioning. If you’re curious about what that means, visit the Mentor Program page for more information!

Alissa was an NNPN Producer-in-Residence for Theater Alliance’s 20th season. During her time at Theater Alliance, she joined a cohort of international artists in India to co-create and tour A Global I.D.E.A. - a devised performance piece about inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility on a global scale. In 2023, she was able to revisit the project at a hyperlocal level, by co-facilitating and producing A DMV I.D.E.A., a similarly devised performance piece in partnership with five colleges around the DMV. She also had the pleasure of Assistant Directing This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing by Finnegan Kruckemeyer (dir. Johamy Morales) and Dramaturging The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, adapted by Lydia Diamond (dir. Otis Ramsey-Zöe). Other past work includes: Freelance Dramaturgy and New Work Development, Dramaturgy Associate/Production Dramaturg for the 21-22 season at Olney Theater Center. Guest Artist at Kennedy Center Directing Intensive (2022). LMDA Conference Scholar (2022). Alissa has interned with Samuel French, Clubbed Thumb, and Ojai Playwrights Conference.

Alissa’s favorite place to be is in rehearsal, but when she’s not making theater, you can find her playing with her dog Nugget, crocheting, reading on her Kindle, thrifting, or baking something delicious!
